Dr Michael A. Perelman is a Clinical Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry, Weill Cornell Medicine | New York-Presbyterian, and Co-Director of the Human Sexuality Program of the Payne Whitney Clinic. Formerly, he was also Clinical Professor of Reproductive Medicine and Urology at the NY Weill Medical College of Cornell University. In 2011 he founded the MAP Education and Research Foundation [public charity]. The Foundation's mission is to educate healthcare providers about the importance of maintaining a bio-psychosocial-behavioral and cultural approach to the diagnosis, and treatment of sexual disorders. He donated the registered trademark of his Sexual Tipping Point® Model to the Foundation in 2012, so that it could be made available gratis to healthcare professionals upon request.

A National Institute of Health Fellow, he received his MS, M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in clinical psychology from Columbia University, where he wrote the first sex therapy dissertation in Columbia's history. Dr Perelman was Chief Intern in Medical Psychology at Duke University Medical Center and was next a 1974 Postdoctoral Fellow at Cornell Medical Center. As an international leader, Dr Perelman has served on several professional society boards of directors and was the President of The Society for Sex Therapy and Research. He has been elected a Fellow of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America, the International Society for Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH), and the Society for the Scientific Study of Sex. He is also a member of over twenty-five other professional associations (serving on and/or chairing numerous committees). He was appointed and served on the Sexual Function Advisory Council of the American Urological Association. He was appointed and served on the Standards Committee of the International Society for Sexual Medicine. He was appointed and served on the American Psychiatric Association's DSM-V Task Force as an Advisor to the Sex/GID Work Group.

Dr Perelman maintains an independent practice in Manhattan, specializing in sex and marital/couples therapy. He is certified by New York State and listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. Div. 43 (Society for Family Psychology) of the American Psychological Association has presented him with the James W. Maddock Faculty Award. The American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) certifies him as a sex therapy diplomate, supervisor, sex educator, sex counselor, CE provider, and honored him with their 2012 Award for Professional Standard of Excellence.

Since 2012, Dr Perelman is the Emeritus Editor in Chief, for Springer's Current Sexual Health Reports. Additionally, he has served on several other publication's Boards of Directors and contributes as a consulting editor and/or reviewer for numerous professional journals. He has published over 60 peer reviewed articles, as well as countless abstracts, posters, and over 25 chapters in sexual medicine texts along with delivering over 275 invited presentations. Dr Perelman has been an investigator on many clinical trials, and served on dozens of industry advisory boards and speakers' bureaus. Additionally, his work in sex and marital therapy is often featured in the media.
